Tacoma Area Commission on Disabilities Meeting Minutes TACID – 6315 South 19th Street, Tacoma, WA 98407 July 14, 2016 4:00 PM Call to Order The meeting was called to order at 4:04 p.m. Commissioners Present Luke Byram, JoAnn Fritsche, Todd Holloway, Roxanne Miles, Krystal Monteros, Gerrit Nyland Commissioners Absent Sheryl Ellis, Michael Maratas, Devin Myers, Gary Peterson City Staff Present Joy St. Germain, Sandy Davis, Donlisa Scott, Gail Himes, Kurtis Kingsolver Adoption of Agenda The agenda was accepted as presented. Acceptance of Minutes A motion was made, seconded, and carried to accept the COD meeting minutes of June 9, 2016 CODMin20160609 Public Comment There was no public comment Reports Liaison Report – Sandy Davis Ms. Davis reported that an order has been placed for a cordless microphone. There will be three vacancies on the commission on August 31, 2016. Human Resources Director’s Report – Joy St. Germain Ms. St. Germain reported that Eric Huseby will provide her with the dimensions of the violation envelopes left for persons who illegally park in an accessibility stall so an educational notice can be created by the Commission. [RM1]. Anita Gallagher will be working on the ADA Transition Plan update. The goal is to have a draft updated by the end of the year. Ms. St. Germain would like to have the City Manager’s input regarding the Closed Captioning Ordinance that the Commission has proposed. She will report back to the Commission during the next meeting. Center for Independence (CFI) Report – Commissioner Holloway Commissioner Holloway reported that CFI’s picnic is scheduled on August 19 from 12-3:30pm. There will be two youth workshops this year. Commissioner Byram reported that the North office has moved from Bellingham to Marysville and has expanded services to Kitsap county. Presentations Business Status of Public Works Kurtis Kingsolver and Gail Himes provided an update of the role of the Public Works Department and provided a handout detailing their work. Committee Reports Mental Health Committee Update – JoAnn Fritsche Commissioner Fritsche provided an update on the mental health research project. She shared two proposed messages for the public on mental and behavioral health. The committee will build a public education strategy to go along with the launch of the Integrated Employment Program. Effective Communication Committee Update – Luke Byram Commissioner Byram reported that Commissioner Peterson will attend the South Tacoma Neighborhood Council meeting. Ethnic Fest Outreach Commissioner Byram provided an update of the final details and will send everyone the location of the booth next week. 2016 Disability Advocates Award Commissioner Byram reported that they haven’t received any nominations. The nomination materials can be found in the Library and other venues. Nominations are due August 5th. Commissioner Byram gave an update on the meeting held with the City of Destiny Committee. He provided a handout of the City of Destiny Committee’s proposal and their June 13 meeting minutes. Commissioner Byram motioned that COD merge the Disability Advocates of the Year award with the City of Destiny awards. The motion was seconded by Commissioner Holloway. After discussion ensued regarding who might be the assigned Commissioner to liaison with the City of Destiny Committee, the motion carried. It was also noted that the City of Destiny minutes need to be corrected as they referenced the Commission as TACID, which is not correct.
